Desktop Users Vs Mobile Users

Basic Info

It's not even an argument anymore, mobile is becoming more and more popular to the point where it's very possible (and is actually very likely) that desktop will be in the minority of users compared to mobile users.

Bounce Rate & Mobile Design

Mobile design is made with the idea of having a fairly large bounce rate, as the bounce rate is saying how long a user is on a certain website. With mobile, the whole idea is to make sure that the person can get the info they need quickly and head out quickly. If someone spends a long time on there, then it usually means that they aren't able to find what they're looking for, and your design may struggle.

Statistics

If you look to the left, you'll see that the users on desktop is still higher, but the rate at which mobile users is rising much faster than desktop is. Desktop is still going on, but it seems to be going up only half as fast as mobile is. It's becoming a mobile company before long, and they've already started to tailor themselves as such.

This is the general internet usage in all of India. Mobile has just beaten out desktop period, and it is still going up by a large margin. This is only in a 4 year time range. Soon enough, desktop might become a very small minority compared to mobile phone/tablet users. It's not only possible, but actually very plausible. This trend is also likely to continue into many other countries in the world.

This chart may be a little out of date, but still holds the merit. Though it may be a little bit too early on having the 50-50 point, it's nearing that point today.
