Wordpress Education

In the world today, almost anyone with access to a computer has used a Wordpress site at least once. It is a nice and easy way to create a website in this day and age. Now I'm writing this post to do one thing: educate you on Wordpress!
Wordpress.com VS Wordpress.org?
Yes, there is a .com and a .org for Wordpress, and they are two different things... kind of. While they are both made by the same companies and let you create websites for free, they also have a slew of differences.
Wordpress.com
Wordpress.com is for the everyman. Someone who doesn't know much html or doesn't know how to host a website. No instillation required, no need to manage hosting, and also no way to edit PHP behind your website. This website does let a lot of people create a website that they need and get going quickly and easily.
Wordpress.org
While you won't need a PhD in server maintenance, this one will require some kind of experience in PHP and making sure everything runs smoothly in a server. You are given a lot more liberties when making your website and you can really make what you want it to be with this. However not for everyone, I recommend this to anyone who knows/is willing to learn some technical things.
Where Did Wordpress Come From?
A program called b2/cafelog came out sometime before Wordpress. It was installed on roughly 2000 blogs, but the dev for it later teamed up to create Wordpress. It's grown greatly since then and now is used by millions upon millions of people.
What is Wordpress based on?
b2/cafelog is what Wordpress really grew off of. It was made by Michel Valdrighi who later became one of the founders of Wordpress. While b2 is still not dead, it's nowhere near as big as Wordpress is today.
What is a CMS?
CMS stands for Control Management System, which in layman terms means you can create, edit, delete, or organize data. They can be used for things like managing workflow, but can also be used for other things like Wordpress!
What sites use Wordpress?
How Many People Use Wordpress?
Of the top 10 million websites, roughly 23.3% of them use Wordpress to host their website. That's almost 2.5 million of the top 10 million alone!
What are other CMSs?
Wordpress isn't alone in the CMS business. 2 of the biggest out there other than Wordpress are:
  • Textpattern: This was the first open source web CMS
  • Joomla!: Another very popular CMS
