Introduction

For anyone who has noticed, my last 8 blog posts have been all about one subject: Video Games Tonight. It is no secret that this was my final project in eComm. Like, ever. I'm a senior right now, and tomorrow is my last day. As such, a big long-term project was the correct way to end this program.

The Project

The project itself is based upon the idea that I could do whatever I wanted and try something totally new, as long as it has to do with eComm. After some deliberation, I decided that audio mixing and editing and there is no better way to do that than talk about video games and cut that together in a podcast.

Timeline

An Example Of An Outline
Upon being assigned this, I had roughly 2 months to work on the project. Given the timeline, that means that I put out one a week. Because of that fact, I knew that creating a strict schedule is the best way for me to create a good product. It all started on Wednesdays when going into a new episode. On Wednesdays, I would do research and create an outline for what I would talk about each week. It is much easier talking for about 13 minutes when you have a piece of paper with topics on them as opposed to just going off of sheer memory. Thursdays was recording day. On recording day, I would go into as quiet of a room as possible and try and get 13 minutes where I can record in peace. I was able to do so... most of the time. Sometimes I had to edit out people coming in during post production. Speaking of post production, that was Friday and Monday. Tuesday was upload day, and I would follow up with a blog post announcing the fact that I uploaded the episode.

What I Learned

When I started this project, I knew nothing about audio mixing. Literally nothing. I opened Audacity once, maybe. However after watching tutorials, I was able to pick up on some stuff and as such learned quite a bit. I also learned that having a schedule with serialized project is very important as it lets me make sure I get what I need done when. It also helps listeners when they are just able to listen and know when a new episode is dropping.

However, there are things I would do differently. Not everything was perfect. The biggest one is trying to find a better way to soundproof episodes, due to other classrooms having stuff going on at the same time, and the residual noise would sometimes make its way into the episodes, and that just doesn't sound great.

I feel like I did do things well, though. I used a good microphone and you could really tell that I became more comfortable with me talking by myself for a certain amount of time. I feel like I really did grow throughout the length of this project.

In the end, this will really help my future work as it has taught me the time management aspect and the importance that a schedule can really improve your creative works.

In Conclusion

Really I just want to thank everyone who is reading for following me and my eComm career this whole time. I really grew as a creative in this time, and I do feel as though I gained a lot from this. Not just this project, but from these past 4 years. I've grown as a person, and my time in eComm has helped shape the person that I am today. Though I go to college soon, I will always remember the lessons that I learned and apply them to my any and all future endeavors that I take.
