Creating A Brand

Introduction

Creating a brand is one of the most important skills when you are a web designer or graphic designer. As such, it is only fitting for our first big project to be creating some sort of brand for a made up company. The catch? I can't just make my own brand. Instead, I have to work with a pair of letters, an animal, a mineral, and a number. I got HG, Giraffe, Beryl, and 11. If you can see just from the logo itself, I incorporated the original Beryl and the HG, and even the giraffe has been sneaked in, due to HG standing for Howard Giraffe. The company itself is a precious metal mining company which focuses on diamonds and beryl-based minerals.

The Logo Itself

A diamond logo is, in all honesty, nothing new. I know that as well as anyone else, which is why I decided to break a few of the norms of the normal diamond logos. In most other instances, though, diamond logos are set up with very dark colors and usually take place in very dark places. Changing that fact was paramount in my design and creative process.
Diamonds are very complex looking mineral with many lines going through it. However this kind of design is very poor for a logo, as logos with too much going on leave viewers distracted and take away nothing. In the end, going for a simpler design was for the better from a total design standpoint.

A Business Card

Business cards are important to all businesses. Executives need them in order to network or to give to people for a wide variety or reasons. Really there isn't much more to say about it. Business cards are very important for any business, so I made one.

Stationary & Envelope

This is really starting to look like a business, huh? For this, I wanted to keep the blue and white design consistent, so I went for a pretty sleek design with nice, defined features that really gives you a professional feeling with great consistency in the business's overall branding of having a nice, new, professional feeling. With the envelope, I decided to keep it simple, but changing the type face in order to give it a more professional feel to it

An App?

Why would a mining company need an app? Well, in this day and age, you can really have an app for anything. This design was made to capitalize on the blue design while still making the logo feel very visible and pop out. The nice blue gradient and contrasting white lines creates an overall nice and beautiful design.

Billboards

Every good business needs a billboard! While if I'm going to use an advertising route, it would probably be an online advertisement that would show up when you are just web surfing, it is important to keep in mind how something would look in a real world space. That is exactly what I did, too!

An Actual Mine!

A mining company probably needs a place to actually mine up the product, right? The minerals don't mine themselves, after all.

Closing Thoughts

Any feedback is very appreciated! What did you like? Didn't like? Want changed? This has been a fun branding project so far and I really enjoyed creating a fictitious brand that I could really go anywhere with.
